Project calls
Transformers, turbines, locomotives, cranes, modules and oversized plant for East Africa's energy, rail, port and industrial projects arrive at Mombasa on heavy lift and multipurpose vessels. Maingate Shipping acts as port agent for these calls, and the same office designs the lifting and safety plans, coordinates the marine warranty survey and arranges the road move.

A project call is planned piece by piece. The desk works from the cargo list weeks before arrival, so that the berth, the gear, the permits and the haulier are ready when the vessel is.
Berth selection for the vessel's draft and the cargo's weight, confirmation of quay strength and crane capacity where the ship's gear is not used, lifting plans for each critical piece with the master and the stevedores, and rigging and lashing gear sourced or checked.

Marine warranty surveyors and cargo interests' surveyors coordinated for the lifts, customs clearance under project or temporary import arrangements, road permits and escorts for abnormal loads, and a route survey where the piece's dimensions demand it.

Handover to the haulier on the quay, escort coordination with the police and the roads authority, and reporting to the project team with photographs and times for every piece.

This desk is part of Maingate Shipping Limited, the Mombasa ship agency, crewing and brokerage house that has attended vessels at Kenyan ports since 2020 from its office at Express Building, Moi Avenue. Port agency at Mombasa and Lamu is handled by the company's own boarding officers; calls elsewhere in Africa run through the Maingate agency line under one DA format and one reporting style; Kenyan seafarers are recruited and managed from the same office; and the chartering desk fixes the tonnage that brings East Africa its wheat, fertilizer, clinker and fuel.
Principals deal with one desk for the whole voyage, and every service is agreed in writing before it is performed.
