P&I collaboration
When a P&I matter arises at Mombasa, the club and its correspondent need someone at the port who can act without delay: a crew member in hospital, a stowaway found on board, a cargo dispute at the berth, a collision in the channel. Maingate Shipping provides that agency support to clubs and correspondents at Mombasa and along the Kenyan coast.

We act on the club's or correspondent's instruction, keep the vessel's own agent informed where that is a different company, and report in the form the club needs.
Hospital admission and follow-up for sick and injured crew, repatriation with medical escort, deaths on board handled with the authorities and the family, stowaway custody and repatriation with immigration, and interpreters and legal representatives arranged when the club instructs.

Attendance at the berth when cargo disputes arise, coordination of the surveyors the club appoints, delivery of letters of undertaking and guarantees to receivers or authorities, and support for the master and the club's lawyers after a collision, grounding or pollution incident.

An initial report within hours, updates as the case moves, and a final account with receipts. Costs are tracked against the club's guarantee or the correspondent's instruction.

This desk is part of Maingate Shipping Limited, the Mombasa ship agency, crewing and brokerage house that has attended vessels at Kenyan ports since 2020 from its office at Express Building, Moi Avenue. Port agency at Mombasa and Lamu is handled by the company's own boarding officers; calls elsewhere in Africa run through the Maingate agency line under one DA format and one reporting style; Kenyan seafarers are recruited and managed from the same office; and the chartering desk fixes the tonnage that brings East Africa its wheat, fertilizer, clinker and fuel.
Principals deal with one desk for the whole voyage, and every service is agreed in writing before it is performed.

We act as agent on the instruction of clubs and their appointed correspondents; where a club lists a correspondent for Kenya, we work with that correspondent.
Launches are available in daylight and acceptable weather, and the desk attends as soon as the instruction is received.
