Crewing collaboration
Crewing agencies and ship managers who want to add Kenyan and East African seafarers to their pools work with Maingate Shipping as their recruitment partner in Mombasa. We screen and present candidates, verify their documents, arrange medicals and training gaps, and deliver them to the joining port; the partner manages the seafarer on board under its own contracts.

The partnership gives a manning agency in Manila, Odesa, Mumbai or Limassol a Kenyan office without opening one.
The partner sends its requirements by rank, vessel type and wage scale. Maingate screens the Kenyan pool, presents short lists with verified files, arranges interviews, medicals and any refresher training, and delivers the seafarer to the joining port with the documents the partner's flag requires.

Recruitment runs under the Maritime Labour Convention and Kenyan regulation: no fees charged to seafarers, contracts in writing, complaints recorded and answered. Partners can audit the process and hold a copy of our compliance file.

A placement fee per seafarer or a retainer for pools of agreed size, with travel, medicals and training passed through at cost. Terms are set out in a partnership agreement with confidentiality on both sides.

This desk is part of Maingate Shipping Limited, the Mombasa ship agency, crewing and brokerage house that has attended vessels at Kenyan ports since 2020 from its office at Express Building, Moi Avenue. Port agency at Mombasa and Lamu is handled by the company's own boarding officers; calls elsewhere in Africa run through the Maingate agency line under one DA format and one reporting style; Kenyan seafarers are recruited and managed from the same office; and the chartering desk fixes the tonnage that brings East Africa its wheat, fertilizer, clinker and fuel.
Principals deal with one desk for the whole voyage, and every service is agreed in writing before it is performed.

Ratings, cadets and junior officers are readily available; senior officers on larger tonnage are placed with more lead time.
